The Madras High Court has agreed to urgently hear the anticipatory bail plea filed by Udhayanidhi Stalin, the Leader of the Opposition in Tamil Nadu, following the registration of a criminal case over remarks he allegedly made during a public rally in Thanjavur.

The urgent mention was made before Justice G.K. Ilanthiraiyan, who accepted the request for an immediate hearing. During the proceedings, the court reportedly made an oral observation asking the police not to take precipitate action until the bail petition is heard.

The controversy stems from comments made by Udhayanidhi Stalin during a rally related to the Cauvery water dispute. Following complaints from political opponents, the Thanjavur police registered an FIR under multiple legal provisions. The case has sparked significant political debate across Tamil Nadu, with both supporters and critics reacting strongly.

Meanwhile, police detained Udhayanidhi Stalin for questioning, leading to protests by DMK workers in several districts. Party leaders have described the legal action as politically motivated, while opposition parties have defended the police action.

The High Court’s hearing is expected to play a crucial role in determining the immediate legal relief sought by Udhayanidhi Stalin as the case continues to unfold.
